Counselor Role Models
In today’s world, it matters who your child’s role models are.
Children learn from the adults around them, so we place a huge emphasis on being exceptional role models for our campers. Our counselors choose to work tirelessly to help campers grow into champions. Camp Champions counselors are held to very high standards. For example, our staff agrees to abstain from drinking alcohol for the entire time they are with us – even on their days off. Champions counselors view each day as an opportunity to make a positive impact on our campers.
Each year, we spend five months recruiting the best counselors from around the world.
We visit college campuses and travel internationally to meet applicants. As a result, we have a diverse staff, with counselors from 9 different countries and 16 different states.
We have one of the longest orientations in the camp industry, during which our counselors are extensively trained on best practices for working with children. Waterfront counselors are American Red Cross certified and all staff members train thoroughly to perfect teaching in their activity areas.
“The love I saw in the eyes of these college-age counselors for these kids brought tears to mine. The bond built between these counselors, who give up their whole summer and go alcohol free even on off days, and these children is palpable. We had so many counselors make a bee line for us and our boys and pick them up and swing them around and tell us how wonderful they have been at camp. The hugs and the words of encouragement and hopes to see the boys next year made my heart swell.”
