Steve Sir Named Board Chair of American Camp Association

Camp Champions remains a leader in the summer camp industry, and we are proud to announce that our very own Steve Baskin has been named the incoming Board Chair of the American Camp Association (ACA)!

Steve Sir has previously served as the Chair of the Tristate Camp Conference and as Chair of the ACA Board Development Committee. This new position builds on a legacy of service and leadership within the summer camp community.

Steve Sir is a lifelong camper who started as a camper at Camp Stewart in 1973. After many years as a camper, counselor, and leadership member at Camp Stewart, Steve Sir and his wife Susie Ma’am bought Camp Champions in 1996 and served as Executive Directors starting in 2005. Steve Sir has written and spoken extensively on the value of the camp experience, including in his TEDx talk and his HBS reunion speech on parenting.

As National Board Chair, Steve Sir is at the forefront of big decisions in our industry. This is an exciting time for summer camps, because tech-free experiences away from home have never been more important for kids. Camp can also be an antidote to the rising tide of anxiety among young people. At camp, campers have an opportunity to start building independent experiences and learning that they can be spectacular without a phone in their hands.

Finally, the ACA was recently awarded a $45mm grant to help camps teach character and broaden their reach. Steve Sir will be part of those efforts as well as pursuing policies to help grow the number of young people attending camps. We are so excited to watch Steve Sir continue to make a difference in the broader world of summer camp!
