In our second installment of blogs about our 4 R’s, we’re covering reaching out.
We teach our campers to make new friends, encourage each other, and be kind cabinmates at camp. We truly believe in the power of reaching out to others- it is our observation that people who give readily to others are also those who live the fullest and most joyous lives.
How can our campers reach out to others during this time?
Keep in Touch with Camp Friends
What better time than now to reach out to your camp friends?! We recommend scheduling a FaceTime or Skype call with your cabinmates to catch up. Reaching out to your camp friends is a great way to show your love and support during this time. Plus, reminiscing about the carefree days on Lake LBJ will be a great way to bring a smile to your faces!
Call Friends & Family to Say Hello
Even though you can’t meet face to face, we encourage you to get in touch with friends and family digitally! With FaceTime, Skype, Zoom, or just a simple phone call, don’t forget to check in on the friends and family who you aren’t seeing regularly. A quick call to say “hello” and see how a friend is doing can go a long way to make someone’s day brighter.
Write Encouraging Notes
Call your local nursing home to see if they are accepting letters or cards for their residents. Since many nursing homes aren’t accepting visitors at this time, writing notes is a great way to reach out and lift the spirits of those who could really use some joy right now. Also consider writing letters to friends or family members who live far away from you!
Looking for a camp friend’s contact information? Log in to your Camp Parent account and go to the “Forms” section. Scroll down to the bottom and you’ll see the 2019 Directory, where you can find your camp friends’ contact information!
